BMW Ring Taxi

FG has a team of 14 driving to Nurburg for the German F1 and 125 Years of The Car. After seeing an Article on Pistonheads about the BMW ring taxi, I thought it worth checking the availability on F1 weekend noting the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife are seperate circuits.

Although we may not see this M3 used as the Ring Taxi
E92 M3

We may see something like this

Response back from BMW Ring Taxi shows they plan a month at a time but the line up does not include an M5 or M3 for March:

Dear Mr. Neil,

I’m sorry but in the moment I have only dates for March, but at the beginning of April we become more info for the next few months. We will are going to drive this year with the following vehicles:

MINI John Cooper Works (211 PS), price 195,- € Euro incl. 19% VAT

Please back at a later at the beginning of april.

Best regards
Judith Graeff

Motorsport Events To Attend

Having recently updated the 2011 Motorsport calendar, it looks to be an eventful year on the way!

I will be attending Le Mans on the weekend of the 11th June with a team of 7 from the UK in a Motor Home.

This year is 125 Years of The Car in Germany. The German F1 will take place at Nurburg and should be an excellent spectators day – looking forward to our 14 person team road trip from London – Brugge – Koblenz – Nurburg and back powered by Merc S, BMW M3, Audi TT RS/Porsche Cayman, Mini Cooper S and maybe a DB9 and Citroen 2 CV..

As soon as the weather picks up, there is also the SLS AMG track experience to attend at MB World!

125 Years of the Car – Day 2

The Porsche Museum was easily my favourite of the three (Mercedes, Porsche and Audi), which was also contributed to by the very knowledgeable tour guide, who actually drove one of the cars at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. I found the comments by Ferdinand Porsche dotted around the museum very interesting, my favourite of which ‘In the beginning I looked around but couldn’t find the car I dreamt of, so I decided to build it myself’. The line up of 911 Turbo’s from 930 – 997 on revolving platforms at exactly the same turning speed was the longest point of admiration from me. I liked the nickname for the 930 Turbo as the ‘Widow Maker’, which was mentioned on a recent excursion by a PCGB member with reference to the outrageous turbo lag and tail out cornering. The museum was nowhere near the size of the Mercedes Museum but I preferred the more peaceful atmosphere, design of the building, more knowledgeable tour guide and better contents – I’m biased on this however.
