100 years of Brooklands,
hosted by Mercedes-Benz World. Historic vehicles included Babs, the
27-litre 1000bhp monster, which killed Parry Thomas back in 1927 while
attempting to break the land speed record. Babs was buried in the Pendine
Sands in Wales for 50 years before the restoration took place. Other cars
included the Napier Railton producing speeds of 143mph back in the day and
the stunning Blitzen Benz from 1909.
Modern cars included a line up
of Ferrari's, Bentley's, Aston Martin's and a Mercedes Mclaren SLR 722
with bigger brakes, 30mm lower/stiffer suspension, a carbon fibre front
splitter and 20bhp more. This may not sound much but the drivers on the
day said you would be astonished by how quickly it can catch up with the
standard model.
